Register or check your details
Tell me which Google Account you use in the Play Store. If you registered before, use your existing Fuel Finder account.

Join the tester group
After registering, follow the joining instructions here or in your email. Join the Google Group using the Google Play account you registered.

Join the new closed test
Once you have joined the group, open the Google Play link using that same account, accept the closed test and install Fuel Finder. Internal testers must leave the internal test first.

Test for at least 14 days
Stay continuously opted in, use the app on real journeys and report anything confusing, slow or broken.

Receive Pro
I will confirm your reward after your participation is confirmed. There is one 12-month reward per tester, including anyone who joined an earlier round.

Common questions

Before you join

Google Play says “Item not found”. What should I do?: First check that the testing page says “You are a tester”. Then open the Play Store app, tap your profile picture and select the same Google Account you used to join. Your browser and Play Store can use different accounts. Reopen the app link from the testing page; the closed test will not appear in a normal store search. The test is currently available to UK Google Play accounts. If you have only just joined, allow time for access to update and try again. If it still fails, email [email protected] with your phone model, Android version and a screenshot with personal details hidden.
The group says I cannot view its contents. Did joining fail?: The group is used for test access, and its conversations are private. Check your membership on the group’s About page. Once you have joined, continue to the Google Play testing link using the same account; you do not need access to group conversations.
I joined, but there is no Update button.: Joining the test does not always mean a different version is ready to install. If you already have the current test version, use it as normal. Future approved releases will be offered through Google Play; automatic updates depend on your Play Store settings.
I registered or tested before. Do I need to join again?: You must opt in to this new closed test through its Google Play invitation. Earlier registration, installation or internal testing does not automatically enrol you. Use your existing Fuel Finder account to check your saved details and follow the joining instructions here. If you are in the internal test, wait for the new invitation, then leave the internal test before joining the closed test.
How long do I need to test?: Stay continuously opted in to the closed test in Google Play for at least 14 consecutive days, keep the app installed, use it regularly and send useful feedback. The period starts when you opt in through Google Play, not when you register on this page.
Is the 12 months of Pro really free?: Yes. No card is required for the reward. It is one 12-month entitlement per tester across all testing rounds and is activated after your participation in the closed test is confirmed. Joining this new round does not add a second free year if you already received the tester reward.
What if I already pay for Pro?: Your existing subscription continues until you turn off renewal through Stripe or Google Play. Contact me to arrange reward activation after your paid access ends. I will confirm the dates; the free year is not used while you still have paid access.
Does registering here opt me in on Google Play?: No. You must first join the tester group, then accept the new closed test in Google Play using the same Google Account before installing the app. Joining the group or being marked as invited here does not complete the Google Play opt-in.
Do I need a car with Android Auto?: No. The phone app and home-screen widget need testing too. If you do have Android Auto, your feedback on the driving experience is especially useful.
Can I leave the test?: Yes. Sign in and withdraw your registration here to stop future testing emails. This does not remove you from Google Play or the tester group; leave those separately if you also want to end your access.
